Honolulu City Council Accepts Gift from Friends of the Gandhi Statue Waikiki

On January 27, 2016 the Honolulu City Council accepted a gift from the Friends of the Gandhi Statue Waikiki of the new patina for the Gandhi statue and 3 new plaques describing Gandhi’s life, his efforts to free India and how Gandhi’s teachings relate to Hawaii and the world.
The Mayor’s Commission on Culture and the Arts approved to respectfully request the acceptance of this gift by the Council of the City and County of Honolulu in December of last year. Ernest Martin, Council Chair stated “Your generous contribution is another outstanding example of the many civic minded citizens who love Oahu and are willing to step forward to improve our island home.”
The Friends of the Gandhi Statue Waikiki and their supporters are very pleased with the efforts of the City Council to help bring landmark status to the Gandhi statue in Waikiki and help spread his message of peace and non-violent civil disobedience to the people of Hawaii and the world.
